The gasoline engine nfu TU5JP4 engine was developed by the specialists of PCA Peugeot Citroën with colleagues from BMW. When the engine was being developed, all requirements established by engine builders, time and international standards of 2006 were met. It became a base gasoline engine for the model range of Citroen and Peugeot cars. Such vehicles, as Citroen C2,C3,C4, Berlingo, Xsara 1587cc, Peugeot 206, 307, Partner were equipped with these engines. And it’s not surprising: it had all features that meet all the requirements of the demanding European car market.

If compared with the previous model, the new engine was drastically changed. The gas distribution mechanism was redeveloped. As is known, any four-stroke engine has a clear algorithm of opening and closing of the fuel supply valve and the exhaust valve. By the way, there is a particular height of the opening. As a consequence, no matter, on which mode a valve works, it is opened at the same height level.

For the engine working in a right way and extracting all exhaust in a timely manner, a scheme called “crossflow” was developed. It means that fuel is fed from the one side and exhaust is extracted from the opposite side. This system improves the work of the engine and is responsible for its durability. The injection system of the МЕ 7.4 type by BOSCH is responsible for explosion of combustible. It is fully automated, sequential and is operated without interference and changes.

Due to the fact that a cast cylinder barrel and an aluminum cylinder head are included in the construction of the 1.6 VTi TU5JP4 engine, the developers could achieve the weight of the weight and the size of the engine, as compared to competitors.

Despite the fact that car makers recommend to experience maintenance every 10 000 km or once a year, specialists recommend to change oil, clean the injector and change all spark plugs every 7 000 km. This is because cars work under our conditions that are more severe, than the European ones, when it comes to engines.
Also, the owner may have problems with ignition coils as they often burn out.
The TU5JP4 engine is proved to be durable and cost-effective. While cars of these models suffer from breakage of the transmission and burning down of electronics, the engine continues working. Interruptions in its work appear only because of low-quality fuel or untimely change of operating fluid.
